We participate in and support several rescue groups at the kennel.
Our “pet” project is the HALT program. HALT stands for humans and animals learning together. In the program, dogs are rescued from local shelters and paired with groups of adolescents for basic obedience training. The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and Ideal Veterinary Hospital are also sponsors of the program.
We have a class in the spring and a class in the fall. HALT is a win-win situation because it benefits not only the homeless dogs, who are placed into a permanent home after the class, but also the kids that work with the animals, who build their self-esteem by helping the animals.
Please contact us for more information or visit HALT’s website at www.haltdogs.org
We also help to provide temporary housing for some rescue groups when they are in need of foster homes.
Tennessee Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, www.tvgrr.com , and East Tennessee Border Collie Rescue, www.bordercollierescuetn.com , and Small Breed Rescue of East Tennessee, www.sbret.com are a few of the groups we work with on a regular basis.
We also offer a discounted boarding rate to qualified rescue groups.
If you are a member of a group that needs space for your current available dogs, please contact us for more information. For a complete description of available dogs housed at the kennel, please call us or contact the rescue groups.
And remember, there are many opportunities within our community to adopt pets that are desperately in need of a permanent home. We can refer you to a breed specific rescue group, or you can always contact your local shelter or humane society.
